Goodbye NM Hello TX

We visited the Loretto Chapel this morning, it is beautiful. We hit the road in some cool temps still racing a rain storm but it warmed up quickly. We made it to Lamesa, TX after a long day of heat, wind, tumble weeds actually hitting us, dirt and a few stops along the way. We were finally able to make the Roswell Harley dealership during business hours. We had lunch at a neat local place called the Cowboy Cafe and it did not disappoint. Into Lamesa we made it where the Shiloh Inn was very welcoming and put us into a room that already had the ac going as they saw we pulled in on a motorcycle. Dinner was a short walk to Pedroza’s and back to our ac for the night.

Always a great time on a trip but always happy to get home too

Santa Fe, NM

We left Estes Park CO this morning and dodged rain storms where we caught just enough of them to make us a little wet and cold but dry just as quick once through it. At one point there was a lightning strike that may have been about a mile away from us but seemed like it was right next to us 😳 Dinner on the Plaza square and a little sight seeing and we will be gone again tomorrow.

Well Colorado, it’s been memorable

Another Colorado trip in the books. It has been a great time riding through some beautiful places and just enjoying all the grandeur that is here. I think I could make a home here some place at some point.

So we’re off tomorrow to find our way home and who knows what roads we’ll take 😊

A big shout out to Paradise on the River for a great stay in Rivers End Cabin. Being able to listen to the river right outside has been relaxing and peaceful.

“Upon this rock I will build My Church” Mt 16:18

Saint Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Chapel. This beautiful church was in our way into Estes Park. They still have Mass on Wednesday mornings. Pope John Paul II has visited and they took him to buy tennis shoes so he could do a little hike nearby 😊

Colorado is breathtaking!

We made it to Estes Park Tuesday afternoon with time to relax just a little. Then we went to town for dinner at Chelitos Mexican Restaurant and some groceries for our days here. It was a beautiful ride. We stopped in Breckenridge and checked in to the HOG Rally and visited with some other friends who are up in the area as well. Today was spent riding through the Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge Road that was just opened on Thursday, lunch in Grand Lake and then back through the RMNP via TRR again. Started off warm, we stopped so far up before pulling over to put on our jackets only to stop again on our descent to take them off. Lots of curves, breathtaking views, snow and animal sightings. It’s always a good day when we ride!

These “poles” let the snow plows know where the edge is 😳Seriously!? On the way to the top of Trail Ridge Road we still ran into one lane only construction!Grand Lake, CO This girl was carrying her woobie 😊This cow was running at all the spectators protecting that baby!

Texas to New Mexico to Colorado

We started out this morning a few hours later than we wanted to but the bike is now taken care of and good to go!

We crossed into New Mexico where we didn’t want to breath or talk for miles because….well cattle yards, that’s why! And it’s also home to 55-65 mph highway speeds. When you’re used to Texas and 75-85 mph it’s hard to behave with the throttle 😉

Then the winds started and didn’t let up the whole day, which btw turned into about 8 hours on the bike, but with the winds it makes it feel like 14,000,000 hours. It was hot and then we got rained on a little and it was just what we needed. We saw lots of trains too!

It was a good day to ride!

So today…..yeah

We spent about 9 hours in the saddle today making our way to Lubbock with our friends Rickey and Connie.

We had nice weather with cool winds until somewhere between 3 and 4 pm when the 425 degree dry oven heat hit us! Then we hit the trifecta on one lane one way led by a pace car highway construction – thank goodness only one of them was caliche and then wet caliche 😑 And then it happens – flat rear tire on the highway as we were coming into town. Luckily Bryan was able to get us safely back over and into a parking lot. We were able to get Wild West Harley to come pick us up and will have the tire replaced in the morning. We were headed for a hotel for the night in Lubbock anyway so we ended up in the hotel near the Harley shop – walking distance as well as visual distance. Tom, our Harley guy, was great!

We got an Uber for dinner to & from and both elderly gentlemen were neat guys and had some stories to tell. Dinner was good too!

So now we wait for the shop to open in the morning and then get going on our way again!
