The weather is becoming nicer for riding here in S. Texas and that means we ride more. It does not, however, mean we stop having what we call our “Gabbert” rides.
This morning we slept in and were sitting on the couch and it was kind of “hey let’s go for a ride” between us. So off we went, still early enough to have a nice breakfast/brunch somewhere. We headed for The Roux in Sandia/Lagarto. The owners are Louisiana transplants and make some very delicious food! Plates are plentiful and prices are worth it! You can also place orders for boudin ð
So we have a nice ride there, enjoy a good breakfast and turn right out of the parking lot when we leave…..and it begins. Nice road with a slight curve, crest a small hill and come down the other side with a sight we’re not sure is right. But oh alas, it is….the road ends and goes into the lake!
Welcome to our Gabbert ride! If the road doesn’t end, isn’t sketchy as all get out that I have to get off so Bryan can turn the bike around, turn to 3 inch deep loose caliche, 10 miles of caliche or grooved pavement, have construction on it, take us on such a pothole laden road that we’re doing the slalom or take us where the hills have eyes – it’s not a Gabbert ride.
I wouldn’t trade our rides for anything, don’t get me wrong, I would still have plenty to blog about but these you just can’t beat. These rides are some of what makes us laugh and usually makes me either choke on whatever I’m eating or drinking ðĪŠðĨī
Get out and ride!
