First set of gear

When Bryan finally got me to get on the bike with him I needed gear so off to Harley we went to spend a few hundred dollars. After trying on several jackets and knowing that I was not interested in a full face helmet I finally decided on what I wanted and brought it home. I loved it all. My family on the other hand told me how my helmet reminded them of the little green alien guy from the Flintstones – the Great Gazoo! I told them to shut up and wore that helmet with pride until I saw a picture that made me think “yeah, it does look a little weird” and bought a new helmet.

The first bike and 3, 2, 1…..hooked for life

My husband had been asking about buying a motorcycle for years and I always said no because I was scared of them, we had small children, we can’t afford it, etc.

Then May 8, 2011 and hubby got called out and was working overtime on Mother’s Day, yet again, and I was in no mood to cook because you know it was supposed to be MY day and all. So we go to pick up dinner and while in the car he says “Hey, so and so at work is selling a motorcycle.” I said yes right away. He was shocked! It was a 2003 Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

Two short years down the road and Bryan wanted to upgrade the seat on the bike. It was at this visit to the Harley store that I would decide that I wanted to ride with Bryan and enjoy the rush too. I gave him the chance at buying a new motorcycle and our first touring bike was purchased, an HD Ultra Limited. I was super scared at first and we started out slow in parking lots and small rides down roads that we could get up to about 45 mph. My first  real ride was around the lake and a few back roads. I absolutely loved it!

Now we are 6.5 years later and we are on our 5th bike. First bike was a fat boy, next 3 bikes were all ultra limited’s and our 5th bike is our first road glide. We’ve been on some really short rides, we’ve been on some really long rides, we’ve been on super scary rides, we’ve been on back roads, busy roads and roads that I don’t think were EVER roads to begin with, we’ve dodged animals and debris and we’ve scraped some floor boards in a few curves. We’ve had things go wrong with the bike on the road, things go wrong with other rider’s bikes on the road. We’ve learned a few things about riding, gear to always carry, tools to always carry and still learning.

Overall it’s been one hell of a ride and we wouldn’t trade any second of it. Don’t wait for life, ride to meet it!
